This
tour is a must for all art’s lovers and will help you to understand
the beginning of that wonderful period that started in FLORENCE
called Renaissance under an unusual point of view: we will
discover how the desire to be remembered for posterity has been
interpreted by the best artists of the Renaissance.
Inside the Cathedral we will see two famous paintings by
Andrea del Castagno and Paolo Uccello of two condottieri
that seem to be more like sculture than paintings.
Inside the Baptistry we will admire the 13th century mosaics
of the vault and the tomb of the schismatic Pope John XXIII by
Donatello.
The Medici desire to be remembered
for posterity commissioned artists such as Verrocchio,
Leonardo’s teacher, to built the beautiful funereal tombs
for Cosimo 'Pater
Patriae' and Piero and Giovanni, which are inside St.
Lorenzo Church.
In the Medici Chapel we can admire the masterpieces that
Michelangelo created for the tombs of Lorenzo and Giuliano
de’ Medici; also the breath-taking Cappella
dei Principi decorated in precious stones is part of
the Medici quest for eternity.
This original tour also includes the visit of Santa Croce Church,
much appreciated by Lord Byron, where some of the most
famous italians such as Michelangelo, Galileo, Macchiavelli,
Rossini are burried.
In a way this route is almost obligatory for someone still looking
for a way to express rather vague sentiments which hover midway
between veneration, humility and the hope of enriching one’s soul
