:: The Florence Charterhouse ::
The monastery which stands impressively above the Via Cassia , was started in 1342 for Niccolò Acciaiuoli and later extended. There are frescoes that, although strongly influenced by Duerer, are incredible examples of the MAnnerist style Pontormo helped.
The gallery is part of the imposing aggregate of the Galluzzo Charterhouse. It gathers all the paintings belonging to the Chaterhouse (and ranging from the 14th to the 17th century); the visit included the fresco cycle painted by Pontormo representing scenes of the Passion.
There are also paintings by Duerer, Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio, Mariotto di NArdo. and a chiostro grande embellished with 66-terra-cotta medallions of Saints and Prophets by Andrea della Robbia.
