:: Michelangelo's House ::
The museum keeps some early works by the artist, such as the Madonna of the Stairs, Santo Spirito Crucifix, and the 'Battle of Centaurs', a collection of about 200 autograph drawings (displayed on rotation) plus a canvas by Artemisia Gentileschi.
The origins of Buonarroti House date back to 1508, when Michelangelo purchased the building; in the following centuries the Buonarroti family, and particularly Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger, enlarged the dwelling and made it more attractive in order to celebrate the glory of the lineage and their distinguished ancestor.
The collection of Michelangelo's drawings owned by Buonarroti family was the largest in the world at the time, and it remains so today, with its over two hundred sheets, in spite of the serious inroads that have been made into it.
